Why we like rusty things ?
There is something about rusty stuff which resonates us right in the heart . We try to capture the form and shape of them and try to connect our memories with them. We see many people use filters to achieve a rusty looks of modern stuff and make them look like a thing of the past. We see lot of photographers shoot the nostalgic elements around them and celebrate them. Sometime I wonder why we do this ? What exactly is so attractive about ‘old’ , ‘broken’ , ‘nostalgic’ , ‘ rusty’ things ? A young kid applying a rusty looking filter and a mid age photographer shooting old stuff , are they both mean same ? Is it because we are bored of seeing perfect things ? Or is it a sign of aging ? Humans are funny!

Editing down Udupi district coffee table book was a lifetime experience for me . The vastness and variety it holds , can make anyone visit this paradise often. I visited Udupi seven times during the assignment but still I felt like it was not enough. There were couple of times I drove all the way to Bangalore to shoot something planned. But I got something else due to weather , different subject by surprise! One of such instance is shooting Malpe boats on a dull , hazy morning. We planned to drive back to Bangalore after a disappointing spoil show by weather. With nothing to shoot I decided to take a walk near Malpe beach for the sunrise . I started shooting with little interest but soon I was mesmerized by the beauty of the colorful fishing boats. The cloud conditions and the haze offered an interesting light situation. I also used a flash to fill in the foreground. After couple of shots I finalized my shooting parameters and went on shooting along the river side . The the results were pretty amazing. This is when you stop worrying about the camera parameters anymore. I finished shooting when the lights started changing.
