I realized I am late by a week after seeing no rains at all in Kumta. Sun was shining bright and puffy clouds floating all over the sky. So with a slightly disappointed mood myself and my friend Sudheer drove around Aghanashini, Kagal and finally landed in Kadle beach to capture setting sun . I saw few boys playing Kabaddi game on the beach and decided to stick around for some time to make capture some frames .
The boys were really energetic and competitive making every second count. In these frames I tried to capture the energy and the spirit of our Indian invented Kabaddi game .
History :As per the story in 1800 a poor farmer found an idol in his farm while ploughing which he assumed that it is a toy until in his dreams a sage came and told him to respect the idol. Farmer ignored the dream but bad things in his life started happening in life which forced him to build a small temple and started worshiping on daily basis. Soon he prospered and became very rich. He shared this story with a Christian priest in Mysore who recognized the statue as St Anthony and built a church there which renovated and on St Anthony’s death anniversary this fair has been being held from 150 years. People offer candles, flowers to St Anthony and take his blessing. Tonsuring hair is also seen here and people offer salt and puffed rice during the procession.
Like any other fair Dornahalli fair also hosts giant wheel, tora-tora, Magic shows, Hotels, Games, Toys, Bangles, sweet shops ,

The awesomeness of Kabaddi game is it requires no instruments like a bat or racquet , no costumes, no extra materials . It just requires a small space , players and a great game spirit. Of course it also requires lot of strength, quickness, endurance, toughness and great team work!! That is why it is well suited for a country like India where one need not worry about spending money on games on buying materials. Few players and a small space is good enough to start the game!!
There is a national level Pro Kabaddi game is going on and you can watch on star sports . My idea is not to endorse this channel but Kabaddi itself. It really requires a good attention so please watch and cheer for the players, cheer for Kabaddi.
